Many people think of Saint Joseph of a kind, quiet man who had love for Jesus and Mother Mary. While this is true, he is also a perfect representation of a father figure as he was strong in faith and a defender of his family.

Unlike Jesus and Mary, Saint Joseph was neither God or immaculately conceived, yet he was so sanctified that he was able to withstand the attacks from demons. Sure, demons could tempt Jesus and Mary but ultimately they had no real power over them. The fact that Saint Joseph was not perfect like them yet could not be defeated make him terrifying to demons. God himself picked St. Joseph to defend his son and his mother, and after Virgin Mary, the devil fears Saint Joseph more than any other saint. Jesus does not obey angels, but Mother Mary and St. Joseph are his mom and dad which he will obey. 

This design represents St. Joseph protecting Jesus from demons. Jesus is young, still learning and scared of this sight, as any child would be. Yet as the perfect father St. Joseph protects Jesus from all attacks throughout his life.
