Saint Nicholas Crewneck
Saint Nicholas was a Catholic Bishop born in the third century. He dedicated his entire life to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. After his death and due to his immense generosity, he became known as the legendary character we know as Santa Claus.
However Saint Nicholas was a man who was ruthlessly persecuted for his faith. Under the Roman Empire, Bishop Nicholas suffered, was exiled and imprisoned due to his practice of the Catholic faith. He died on December 6th, AD 343
Through many centuries stories have been told of St. Nicholas’s life and good deeds. He was often portrayed on a horse, riding around as he gives food and gifts to the needy. This Christmas we can all follow Saint Nicholas’s example and give to the less fortunate wherever we can.
